InfraCircle: 5 Questions, Answered by the Editor
What is InfraCircle?
InfraCircle is a one-stop platform for everything related to infrastructure and policy in India. Given News Corp is our parent company, with strong and globally-renowned platforms such as the WSJ under its umbrella, it allows us access to news from other geographies as well.
The value which we are offering with InfraCircle is that you do not have to go through multiple platforms to access news and information on infrastructure in India. The need for a one-stop platform for infrastructure news was articulated by professionals in the infrastructure space during various meetings, research and events we carried out while conceptualising InfraCircle.
For a country with 1.25 billion people, there are substantial gaps to be filled and InfraCircle has been conceived with the promise to chase those gaps with our fair and consistent reportage and editorials.
What do you mean by “Narrating India’s infrastructure story”?
While we are looking at physical infrastructure in India, the heart of the conversation is also about the moral aspects of the problem. If universal access to transportation, electricity and other basic amenities is missing even after 70 years of Independence, what are we talking about? For a country to even aspire for a growth rate of 8-9%, access to basic infrastructure is a prerequisite and in a country like ours, this is a problem. As long as it continues to be a problem, such conversations will be alive.
How is InfraCircle different from other media platforms?
We are different from traditional media platforms as we cover the infrastructure issues in depth and width. There was a time when newspapers used to break stories. As a platform, we have pushed that envelope a bit further. When a news breaks, we will cover it along with the analysis, opinion pieces and smart infographics as soon as the development takes place. Being a digital platform allows us to do all of this in real time.
What will InfraCircle cover?
We will cover all ministries and businesses which form the ecosystem. For example, energy for us does not include only power, coal or renewable energy but oil and gas as well, and the interplay between the sectors. We cover everything that has to do with mobility in this country. We cover roads, shipping and ports, railways and aviation. We are also focused on the resources space and cover mining, metals, and fertilisers. We also cover urban development, telecommunications and information technology. For all of this to happen, we need money. We follow the money. We cover the finance sector from the viewpoint of infrastructure. Our aspirations are not limited to the beats we have mentioned. We will be doing a lot of things as and when we realise what we can do better.
Awesome. How can we join the discussion?
